Atmospheric Layers
Layer    Features
Troposphere  
•    Extends from the Earth's surface to about 20 km of height.
•    The height of the troposphere varies from the equator to the poles increasing towards the equator.
•    The temperature in the troposphere decreases with height.
•    All weather phenomenon occurs in this region.
•    The transition boundary between the troposphere and the layer above is called the tropopause.
Stratosphere  
  •    Extends from the top of Troposphere to about 50 km above Earth's surface.
•    The temperature increases with height.
•    The ozone layer is found in the lower portion of the stratosphere.
•    The transition boundary between the stratosphere and the mesophere is called the stratopause.
Mesosphere 
  •    Extends from the top of Stratosphere to about 85 km above Earth's surface.
•    The temperature decreases with height.
•    Most of the meteors burn up in this layer.
•    The transition boundary between the mesophere and the thermosphere is called the mesopause.
Thermosphere 
   •    Extends from the top of Mesosphere to about 600 km above Earth's surface.
•    The temperature increases greatly with height reaching upto 2000° at the top of the layer.
•    The ionosphere is a layer within the thermosphere.
•    Auroras are formed in this layer.
Exosphere   
 •    Extends from the top of Thermosphere to about 10000 km above Earth's surface.
•    Satellites orbit the earth in this layer.
